FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week
Austin Lawrence, Santa Fe
Freshman – 2B – Lake City, Fla.

 

Santa Fe College’s Austin Lawrence is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week. Lawrence, a freshman second baseman from Lake City, Fla., batted .643 (9-for-14) over the Saints’ final three games. After picking up two hits in games against Lake-Sumter (April 19) and Daytona State (April 21), he finished the regular season with a 5-for-6 (three doubles), four-RBI outing against Central Florida on April 23. For the week, Lawrence scored seven runs and had four doubles and one triple.

Eric Rice, Palm Beach State
Sophomore – Lake Worth, Fla.

 

Palm Beach State College’s Eric Rice is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Rice, a sophomore from Lake Worth, Fla., tossed a seven-inning shutout against Brevard in Southern Conference action on April 24. Playing their first game as newly-crowned SoCon Champions, the Panthers, behind Rice’s efforts, shut out Brevard, 10-0.

FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week

Eric Sauls, Chipola

Sophomore – OF – Tallahassee, Fla.

 

Chipola College’s Eric Sauls is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week. Sauls, a sophomore outfielder from Tallahassee, Fla., batted .348 (8-for-23) with three home runs and nine RBIs in five games for the Indians. Sauls hit safely in his final four games of the week, scored at least one run in all five games and enjoyed a three-game stretch in which he drove in eight runs. In a three-game series against top-ranked Gulf Coast, he went 7-for-15 with two homers and six RBIs, including 4-for-7 in game one when he drove in the game-winning run in Chipola’s 14-13, ten-inning victory.

 

FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Jacob Knott, Seminole State

Freshman – Lake Mary, Fla.

 

Seminole State College’s Jacob Knott is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Knott, a freshman from Lake Mary, Fla., recorded three saves in four appearances last week for the red-hot Raiders. During Seminole State’s 3-1 week, he notched saves against Central Florida (April 12), Florida State College (April 16) and Santa Fe (April 17). In 3.1 innings of work, he allowed only one run and two hits while striking out seven batters.

FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week
Andrew Spleth, Pasco-Hernando
Sophomore – 1B – Indianapolis, Ind.

 

Pasco-Hernando Community College’s Andrew Spleth is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week. Spleth, a sophomore from Indianapolis, Ind., batted .571 (10-for-16) with one home run and six RBIs during a four-game stretch in Suncoast Conference play. Spleth had at least two hits in each game, including three-hit outings in wins against State College of Florida (April 7) and Hillsborough (April 10). In the win over SCF, Spleth was 3-for-4 with a double and RBI and scored a run. He matched the 3-for-4 effort in the win over Hillsborough, which included two doubles, a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. In the process, Spleth extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

Jordan Wellander, Brevard
Sophomore – Largo, Fla.

 

Brevard Community College’s Jordan Wellander is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Wellander, a right-handed sophomore from Largo, Fla., tossed a nine-inning shutout against Southern Conference foe Miami Dade on April 10. Wellander allowed only six hits and struck out six batters in the Titans’ 2-0 win over the then-No. 5 Sharks.

FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week
Cameron Graves, Gulf Coast
Sophomore – OF – Crawfordville, Fla.

 

Gulf Coast Community College’s Cameron Graves is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week. Graves, a sophomore from Crawfordville, Fla., batted .583 (7-for-12) with three home runs and 10 RBIs as the Commodores swept three games from then-No. 6 Pensacola. In game one on March 29, he went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs and five RBIs. He didn’t homer in game two, but drove in four runs on the strength of a 3-for-4, two-double afternoon. He singled and hit a solo home run in the series finale. For the week, Graves scored four runs and posted a 1.500 slugging percentage.

Seminole State College Jacob Knott is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Knott, a freshman from Lake Mary, Fla., notched saves in both of his outings last week. Knott entered both games with the potential tying run at the plate but successfully pitched his way out of trouble against Florida State College (April 2) and Central Florida (April 2). He tossed a total of three scoreless, hitless innings and struck out five batters, including a six-out save against Florida State College.

FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week

Ricky Claudio, Santa Fe

Freshman – OF – Hialeah, Fla.

 

Santa Fe College’s Ricky Claudio is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week. Claudio, a freshman from Hialeah, Fla., batted .461 (6-for-13) with two home runs and seven RBI in three games. Claudio hit safely in each game, including a March 26 outing against Lake-Sumter in which he was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two home runs and seven RBIs. His efforts have helped the surging Saints to six straight Mid-Florida Conference victories.

 

FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Andrew Morris, Gulf Coast

Sophomore – Prattville, Ala.

 

Gulf Coast Community College’s Andrew Morris is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Morris, a sophomore from Prattville, Ala., tossed a no-hitter in his only appearance of the week. In the win over Tallahassee on March 24, Morris struck out 11 and faced only three batters over the minimum in his seven innings of work. In addition to throwing his second no-hitter of the season, Morris established Gulf Coast records for career wins and strikeouts.

FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week

Tom Winegardner, Polk State

Sophomore – INF – Riverdale Baptist, Md.

 

Polk State College’s Tom Winegardner is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week. Winegardner, a sophomore from Riverdale Baptist, Md., batted .529 (9-for-17), leading the Vikings to a perfect 5-0 week, including four wins in Suncoast Conference action. Winegardner’s week included a two-hit, three-RBI outing against South Florida on March 17. He also picked up a win on the mound against Pasco-Hernando on March 20. By hitting safely in each of the Vikings’ five games, he extended his hitting streak to 28 games.

 

NOTE: Winegardner was 2-for-6 in the Vikings’ game vs. Pasco-Hernando on March 22 to extend his hitting streak to 29 games.

 

FCCAA Baseball Co-Pitchers of the Week

Alex Burgos, State College of Florida

Sophomore – Kissimmee, Fla.

 

Chandler Jagodzinski, Lake-Sumter

Sophomore – Orlando, Fla.

 

State College of Florida’s Alex Burgos and Lake-Sumter Community College’s Chandler Jagodzinski are this week’s FCCAA Baseball Co-Pitchers of the Week.

 

Burgos, a sophomore from Kissimmee, Fla., had a superb week as a starter for the Manatees while Jagodzinski, a sophomore from Orlando, Fla., excelled in a relief role.

 

Burgos was 2-0 (0.00 ERA) and allowed only one run (unearned) in 14.2 total innings, recording wins over Pasco-Hernando and St. Petersburg. Against St. Petersburg on March 19, he allowed only one hit and one walk over eight scoreless innings while striking out 13. For the week, he yielded only five total hits and three walks while tallying 21 strikeouts (.545 WHIP).

 

Jagodzinski was 2-0 with one save (0.00 ERA) and allowed no runs in 7.0 innings of work. He picked up wins against St. Johns River (March 15) and Daytona State (March 20) and was credited with the save in the Lakers’ win over Seminole State (March 17). He allowed only one hit and struck out four in four scoreless innings of relief against Daytona State, as the Lakers picked up a 7-5 win in 11 innings in a battle of first-place teams in the Mid-Florida Conference. For the week, he allowed three hits and one walk while striking out six (.571 WHIP).

FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week

Hunter Smith, Central Florida

Sophomore – 1B – Inverness, Fla.

 

Central Florida Community College’s Hunter Smith is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week. Smith, a sophomore first baseman from Inverness, Fla., batted .619 (13-for-21, 1.047 SLG%) with five home runs and 15 RBI in five games. Smith enjoyed a pair of huge games offensively – three home runs and five RBI vs. Lincoln Land on March 9 and two home runs and six RBI vs. MFC foe St. Johns River on March 14. He also had at least two hits in all five games, scored two or more runs in his final four games of the week and has now recorded at least one RBI in eight straight games.

 

FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Paul Davis, Pensacola

Sophomore – Port St. Lucie, Fla.

 

Pensacola Junior College’s Paul Davis is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. The right-hander, who hails from Port St. Lucie, Fla., tossed a complete-game shutout in the Pirates’ Panhandle Conference opener against Chipola on March 8. Davis allowed only three hits and struck out 16 batters in Pensacola’s 6-0 victory.

FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week

Mike Love, Gulf Coast

Sophomore – OF – Opelika, Ala.

 

Gulf Coast Community College’s Mike Love is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week. Love, a sophomore from Opelika, Ala., batted .692 (9-for-13) with three home runs (1.462 SLG%), eight RBI and ten runs scored in five games. He was 3-for-4 with a solo homer and three runs scored in a doubleheader sweep of Grand Rapids on March 3. In a pair of games against Kankakee on March 4-5, he went a combined 4-for-7. He closed the week with a five-RBI effort against Kalamazoo on March 7 when he was 2-for-2 with a home run and three runs scored. Love hit safely and scored at least one run in each of the Commodores’ five games.

 

FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Matt Gendron, Central Florida

Sophomore – Lakeland, Fla.

 

Central Florida Community College’s Matt Gendron is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Gendron, a sophomore from Lakeland, Fla., tossed a nine-inning no-hitter in the Patriots’ Mid-Florida Conference opener against Lake-Sumter on March 6. Gendron allowed only two base runners (BB, HBP) and struck out ten in the 8-0 victory.

FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week

David Vidal, Miami Dade

Sophomore – 3B – Miami, Fla.

 

Miami Dade College’s David Vidal is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week. Vidal, a sophomore third baseman from Miami, Fla., batted .414 (12-for-29, .897 SLG%) with four home runs and 18 RBI in eight games. Vidal’s efforts helped the Sharks to wins over three nationally-ranked opponents – No. 3 Chipola, No. 12 St. Petersburg and No. 16 Middle Georgia. In the win over Chipola, his sixth-inning grand slam scored what proved to be the game-winning runs in Miami Dade’s 9-5 win.

 

FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week

T.J. Thornton, Indian River State

Sophomore – Delray Beach, Fla.

 

Indian River State College’s T.J. Thornton is FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week. Thornton, a southpaw from Delray Beach, Fla., continued his early-season dominance with a complete-game win over Lake-Sumter on February 26. Thornton scattered six hits over his nine innings of work and allowed only one earned run. In the process, he struck out 12 batters and yielded only two walks.

FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week

Jake Schrader, St. Johns River

Freshman – 3B – Dade City, Fla.

 

St. Johns River Community College’s Jake Schrader is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week. Schrader, a freshman from Dade City, Fla., batted .500 (15-for-30) with seven home runs, 20 RBI and ten runs scored. He began the week in dramatic fashion, capping a 6-RBI effort with a game-winning, two-run single in the bottom of the ninth against St. Petersburg on February 16. The next day, he belted two home runs in game two of a doubleheader against South Georgia. Schrader finished the week with home runs in his last five games, a streak that is still active.

 

FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week

T.J. Thornton, Indian River State

Sophomore – Delray Beach, Fla.

 

Indian River State College’s T.J. Thornton is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Thornton, a southpaw from Delray Beach, Fla., picked up his second win of the season with a complete-game effort against defending FCCAA Champion Santa Fe on February 21. He allowed only one earned run in seven innings of work and became the winning pitcher when his Indian River teammates delivered a two-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh in the 2-1 victory. It was Thornton’s second complete game of the season.

Jeff Moyer, Santa Fe

Sophomore – 3B – Orlando, Fla.

 

Santa Fe College’s Jeff Moyer is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week. Moyer, a sophomore from Orlando, Fla., batted .583 (7-for-12) with three home runs and eight RBI in three games. Moyer started the week by going 4-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI against Hillsborough. In a doubleheader against South Florida on February 13, he was 3-for-4 with a home run, five RBI, four runs scored and five walks.   

 

FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Josh Culler, Seminole State

Sophomore – Newark, Del.

 

Seminole State College of Florida’s Josh Culler is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Culler, a sophomore lefty from Newark, Del., made the most of his lone appearance last week. Against Polk State on February 8, he struck out ten batters and allowed only one run over six innings to earn the victory against the Vikings.

FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week

Bryce Lane, Gulf Coast

Sophomore – OF – Phenix City, Ala.

 

Gulf Coast Community College’s Bryce Lane is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week. Lane, a second-year player from Phenix City, Ala., has batted .524 with two home runs and 13 RBI over the first six games of the 2010 season. He homered in back-to-back games to start the season and finished the First Pitch Classic with seven hits in three games. Against Darton on February 6, he was 3-for-3, scored four runs and drove in five. Lane has had four multi-hit games thus far and also has a slugging percentage of 1.000.

 

FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Paul Davis, Pensacola

Sophomore – Port St. Lucie, Fla.

 

Pensacola Junior College’s Paul Davis is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. The right-hander, who hails from Port St. Lucie, Fla., tossed nine scoreless innings while picking up two wins – one in relief and one as a starter. Against Alabama Southern on February 2, he pitched a scoreless inning in relief and struck out two. Then against Alvin (Texas) on February 5, he struck out 11 and allowed only one hit over eight scoreless innings. For the week, Davis allowed only two hits and one walk.
